Vilitra acts as a phosphodiesterase inhibitor. It helps to relax muscles and enhance blood flow to the penis during sexual arousal, assisting men in achieving and sustaining an erection. Vilitra is prescribed for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (impotence).
Refrain from taking Vilitra if you are also using nitrate medications for chest pain or heart issues (such as nitroglycerin). If you feel dizzy or nauseous during sexual activity, or experience pain, numbness, or tingling in your chest, arms, neck, or jaw, discontinue use and contact your doctor immediately. This may indicate a serious side effect of Vilitra. Seek immediate medical attention if your erection is painful or persists for more than 4 hours, as a prolonged erection (priapism) could result in penile damage.
To ensure the safe use of Vilitra, inform your doctor if you have any of the following conditions: heart disease, arrhythmia, high or low blood pressure, seizures, liver disease, kidney conditions (or if you are undergoing dialysis), blood disorders such as sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma, or leukemia, bleeding disorders like hemophilia, peptic ulcers, hearing or vision impairments, a history of vision loss, eye conditions such as retinitis pigmentosa (an inherited eye disorder), a physical deformity of the penis (like Peyronie’s disease), or if you have been advised against engaging in sexual intercourse for health reasons.
Vilitra may reduce blood flow to the optic nerve, potentially leading to sudden vision loss. This has been reported in a small number of individuals taking Vardenafil, many of whom also had heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, or pre-existing eye issues, especially among smokers or those over 50 years old. It is unclear whether Vilitra is directly responsible for any vision loss. Cease taking Vilitra and seek emergency medical care if you experience sudden vision loss.
Vilitra is not intended for use by women, and it is unknown whether Vardenafil is excreted in breast milk or if it could harm a nursing child. Do not use Vilitra without consulting your doctor if you are breastfeeding.
